Portrait Of A Gentleman
This painting had a decorators ladder poked through it, both uprights and the first rung went through.
This sequence of photos show a deteriorated watercolour, with acidic backing support removed, artwork cleaned and retouched as required. Then replaced in the original repaired frame using conservation techniques and sealed against thunderflies and thrips.
This authentic Lord Baden Powell signed certificate which was seriously cockled and creased, was repaired using acid free materials and framed to suit.
Framing of medals using proper fixings (Not glue!) and low reflection high clarity u/v screening glass - sealed against thrips etc. The glass is not in contact with the medals.
Grimy old painting on artcard with over painted frame
Artwork and frame restored to their original colours.
Late 1800's faded watercolour in its original now deteriorated frame with old glass.
Frame repaired to match existing Artwork cleaned and lightly retinted to restore faded colours and 3D effect. Item resealed using conservation techniques.
Seriously cracked portrait, cleaned and prepared ready for retouching.
On completion, now viewable again.
Painting "holed in one" with a golf club
Repaired without lining to a new canvas or using a patch. Patches often cause distortion to the canvas surface "later".
Very badly deteriorated watercolour 1833
Sensitivity restored yet still retaining its "old look"
This 123 years old print (35 x 25 inches) was in a very fragile and deteriorated condition and had great sentimental value to the owners.
Sadly sometimes the cost of restoration can outweigh the value of the item (sentiment versus logic). Those items can still be greatly improved and conserved while still retaining their 'old' look, as in the example - Not all prints can have this treatment.
Handmade period frames for each picture. They have a soft colour patina to help blend frame with artwork.
Handmade frame - Overall effect with soft colours for easy viewing. This "period" frame has been "antiqued" to look/appear old.
Close up detail, showing antiqued effect. The gold on the bevels is the same as on the frame.
(Reds + greens)
(Browns + purples)
This portrait was water damaged - with part of the canvas missing. The hole at the top was allegedly a bullet hole!
It was unframed and these were some of the samples available for making a 'new' frame. The thin one is a "slip".
Results of D.IY - The owner of the picture told me, " a friend of mine who knows a bit about these things said if you"...
